Nosocomial infections continue to be a significant issue in Romanian hospitals, with 47,394 cases reported in 2025, marking a 13% increase from the previous year. The highest number of outbreaks was recorded in Iași, Bucharest, and Cluj. Intensive Care Units were the most affected, with viral pathogens like SARS-CoV-2 and influenza being the most common. Other notable pathogens included Clostridioides difficile and Acinetobacter baumannii, which pose serious risks to vulnerable patients. Effective infection control measures and rapid pathogen identification are crucial to mitigate these outbreaks.
