The Ministry of Finance reported a budget deficit of 3.81% of GDP for the first nine months of 2026, a significant decrease from 5.31% in 2025. This announcement responds to accusations from the PSD regarding a higher deficit left by former Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan. The report indicates that total revenues increased by 11.9% to 522.69 billion lei, while expenditures rose by only 5.5% to 601.0 billion lei. The PSD claims that Bolojan's government left a deficit of 9.2%, the highest in the EU, which contrasts with the 7.7% deficit recorded under the Ciolacu government. The financial data shows a decrease in expenditures as a percentage of GDP, highlighting a shift in fiscal management.
