Lithuania plans to extend military service for youth and reintroduce general conscription by 2032 due to rising tensions with Russia. President Gitanas Nauseda announced that the number of young conscripts will increase significantly, requiring time for infrastructure and training of additional instructors. The decision was made by the National Security Council and awaits parliamentary approval. Lithuania had partially reinstated military service in 2015 in response to Russia's actions in Ukraine. Women will continue to serve voluntarily, and the transition costs are estimated at 120 million euros.
