In the first nine months of 2026, Romania recorded 1,369 asylum applications, marking a 48.5% increase from 2025. Most requests came from Ukraine, Syria, Sudan, and Afghanistan. The Bucharest center of the General Inspectorate for Immigration received the highest number of applications, totaling 251. Overall, 633 applications were submitted to the Inspectorate, while the Border Police recorded 721 requests. The data indicates a significant rise in asylum seekers in Romania.
