Fátima Báñez, former Spanish Minister of Labor, died in a train collision in Toledo, Spain, which resulted in numerous fatalities. She was traveling to a business event in Sevilla when the Iryo train she was on was struck by a Renfe AVE train. Initial investigations suggest a technical failure left the Iryo train immobilized on the tracks, leading to the accident. Báñez served as Minister from 2011 to 2018 and was known for implementing controversial labor reforms. After leaving politics in 2019, she transitioned to the private sector, holding various director positions.
