Nuclearelectrica is revising its approach to the small modular reactors (SMR) project in Doicești, ensuring that risks are shared more equitably with partners. Over 80% of investment conditions remain unmet, prompting the company to prioritize the protection of Romanian interests and financial discipline. The project aims to replace the former thermal power plant's capacity with clean energy from six SMRs, creating thousands of jobs. The Romanian state, through the Ministry of Energy, holds a majority stake in Nuclearelectrica and half of the project company. The new management is focused on establishing firm agreements with technology partners and clarifying site safety issues to enhance project feasibility.
