Romania's Energy Minister Dumitru Chisăliţă has sought support from European nations for the modernization of Unit 1 at the Cernavodă Nuclear Power Plant. This request was made during a meeting in Luxembourg, amid an ongoing European Commission investigation into Romania's proposed state aid for the project. Chisăliţă emphasized the importance of nuclear energy in achieving long-term energy production with low carbon emissions and ensuring energy security. The Nuclear Alliance aims to enhance cooperation among European states to reflect nuclear energy's role in EU policies. The minister highlighted the need for a technology-neutral European framework that recognizes nuclear energy as a clean energy source and facilitates investment. The modernization project is crucial for Romania's energy sector, with Unit 1 currently offline since July due to low river flow.
