Astronomers have discovered a frozen celestial object beyond Pluto's orbit, potentially classifying it as a dwarf planet. Named 2026 ED138, it orbits about 46 times farther from the Sun than Earth. Preliminary estimates suggest it could be between 600 and 1,500 kilometers in diameter. The discovery was made using the Vera C. Rubin Observatory in Chile, which is part of a collaborative project by the U.S. National Science Foundation and the Department of Energy. Further observations are needed to confirm its status, as its size and mass must meet specific criteria for dwarf planet classification. The findings were presented at a scientific meeting in Spokane, Washington.
