The Bucharest Transport Company (STB) is facing severe financial issues, with a significant portion of its budget being mismanaged and fuel thefts costing millions. STB entered insolvency in September 2026, accumulating debts of approximately 1.6 billion lei. Annual operational costs exceed 2 billion lei, while revenues from ticket sales are only 300 million lei. Recent police investigations revealed that several STB employees were involved in stealing diesel fuel from buses. The special administrator, Gheorghe Pecingină, acknowledged the gravity of the situation and emphasized the need for reforming employee mentality and improving security measures to prevent further thefts.
