IMM Romania successfully lobbied for the removal of provisions requiring businesses to hire lawyers for contract drafting from a proposed amendment to the Lawyer's Law. The legislative proposal, which sparked controversy, aimed to expand the reserved activities of lawyers, raising concerns about potential restrictions on citizens and businesses. The National Union of Bar Associations in Romania (UNBR) argued that the new proposal would not mandate entrepreneurs to use legal services for all contracts, countering fears from the business community. Critics, including Romanian Business Leaders (RBL), estimated that the additional costs for businesses could exceed 100 million euros annually, potentially reaching 800 million if interpreted broadly to include employment contracts.
