Great Wall Motor plans to resume production in Bulgaria by Q1 2027 after a ten-year hiatus, with an annual capacity of 50,000 vehicles. The factory will be located in Bahovitsa, near Lovech, in partnership with Bulgarian Automotive Industry. The first model to be produced will be the electric SUV ORA 5. Previously, GWM faced challenges in Bulgaria, including safety test failures. This move aligns with a broader trend of Chinese automakers expanding in Central and Eastern Europe to avoid EU tariffs on imported electric vehicles. Other Chinese companies, like BYD and Chery, are also investing in the region, enhancing local production and battery supply chains.
