Audio recordings reveal that a controller authorized an AVE train to proceed at normal speed despite a stopped Iryo train ahead. Just five minutes before the collision, the Iryo driver reported being unable to restart. The recordings show that the AVE train was allowed to resume without confirming the Iryo train's status, violating safety protocols. The Spanish government stated that the controller should have ensured visibility and reduced speed until the line was confirmed clear. The Iryo train had reported technical issues, yet no warning was sent to the AVE train, leading to the collision. This incident marks the second serious rail accident in Spain in 2026.
