The President of the Competition Council, Bogdan Chirițoiu, announced that ten banks have initiated legal proceedings to suspend a decision imposing fines exceeding 700 million euros for colluding on ROBOR rates. The processes began with BRD and will continue with CEC Bank. Chirițoiu indicated that the courts might issue rulings in the coming weeks regarding the suspension of these fines. He emphasized the importance of halting the alleged illegal behavior during the litigation period to protect consumers. The fines, announced on June 7, total 3.73 billion lei, marking the largest penalty in the Council's history, as the banks are accused of violating competition laws. Some banks have publicly rejected the Council's conclusions and plan to contest the sanctions.
