Albania has imposed fines exceeding $6,000 on protesters involved in violent demonstrations, even if they do not commit violence themselves. The capital, Tirana, has seen ongoing anti-government protests that escalated into street clashes. Initially peaceful, the protests began in May against a luxury hotel project supported by Jared Kushner. By mid-October, student-led protests emerged, targeting corruption and lack of opportunities for youth. The government, led by Prime Minister Edi Rama, enacted legislation imposing fines for those remaining in violent crowds and granted police authority to restrict gatherings in certain areas. These measures are inspired by a French law and must be approved by parliament within 45 days to remain effective.
