Petrișor Peiu, leader of AUR senators, claims Romania's economy is declining, particularly in services, with significant drops in turnover reported for 2026. He highlights a 0.8% decrease in business services and an alarming 8.4% drop in services for the population compared to the previous year. Peiu attributes this decline to increased consumption taxes and notes that the reduction in service consumption has persisted for over a year. He warns that lower consumption does not necessarily lead to higher investments, as gross fixed capital formation has also decreased as a share of GDP.
