Police radars can measure vehicle speed from long distances, often before drivers notice them. The TruCAM II device, part of the e-SIGUR system, allows for fines without stopping vehicles. It can measure speeds from up to 1,200 meters, but optimal performance is between 30 and 150 meters. The system, operational from January 2025, verifies recordings post-capture, enabling fines without traffic stops. Legislation does not specify a fixed measurement distance, but radars must be certified. A 2018 court ruling clarified that radar error margins do not automatically reduce recorded speeds. Not all road cameras measure speed; some serve other purposes. Modern radars can capture speeds in under a second, with effective ranges varying by device and conditions.
