Increasing meal voucher values from 45 to 50 lei could add approximately 2.4 billion lei to the economy annually and support around 18,000 jobs, according to a study by the Bucharest Academy of Economic Studies. Economic analyst Adrian Negrescu advocates for this adjustment to reflect rising living costs. The study indicates that the contribution of meal vouchers to the GDP could rise from 1.10% to 1.22%. Experts emphasize the need to align voucher values with food price trends to maintain purchasing power. The current voucher value, set a year ago, no longer covers daily meal costs due to inflation. The proposal aims to provide better support for employees amid increasing living expenses.
