Natural gas prices in Europe have surpassed 100 euros per megawatt-hour for the first time since December 2022, driven by geopolitical tensions and low storage levels. Analysts predict high prices will persist as Europe needs to replenish its historically low gas reserves, currently at around 75%. The surge in gas prices is impacting consumer energy bills and leading some industrial sectors to cut production. The last significant price spike occurred at the onset of the Ukraine war, when prices exceeded 300 euros per MWh.
