Romanian public institutions will be prohibited from using antivirus software from Russia until 2035, following a Senate-approved bill. This extends existing restrictions from 2022 due to cybersecurity threats linked to the war in Ukraine. The law aims to protect public sector networks from potential cyber threats. The bill, which received overwhelming support in the Senate, must still pass the Chamber of Deputies to become law. Violations of the ban could result in fines ranging from 50,000 to 200,000 lei. The legislation also outlines a mechanism for identifying prohibited software and services, ensuring ongoing cybersecurity measures.
