Russian state-owned company Rosatom is in advanced discussions to supply small modular reactors to several African coastal countries. The company aims to address energy needs in Africa through floating nuclear power plants, which require less infrastructure and can be deployed quickly. Rosatom is currently constructing Egypt's first nuclear power plant and is negotiating projects with Egypt, Togo, Namibia, and Tanzania. The floating reactors are designed for warm climates and can operate for up to 60 years with maintenance conducted in Russia. Rosatom has also signed an agreement with Indonesia for the first global delivery of electricity from floating nuclear units.
