A proposed law in Romania aims to increase the maximum value of meal vouchers from 45 to 50 lei per day starting November 2026. This initiative, introduced by PSD deputies, seeks to address rising food prices and could provide employees with an additional 100 lei monthly. However, the increase is not mandatory for employers. The change would apply to over 3.2 million employees benefiting from meal vouchers, with the new value expected to remain until September 2027. The proposal highlights that current voucher values do not cover the average lunch cost of 55 lei, reflecting significant price increases in recent years. The estimated economic impact includes an additional 336 million lei monthly in consumer spending and 1.46 billion lei in state budget revenues from taxes.
