Spain's high-speed rail network, the largest in Europe, spans 3,993 kilometers, with 3,225 kilometers dedicated to speeds over 250 km/h. Since the liberalization of high-speed passenger rail services in late 2020, three companies operate on this network: Renfe, Iryo, and Ouigo Espana. Renfe holds a market share of over 60%, while Iryo and Ouigo share the remaining 40%. The number of passengers is expected to reach nearly 40 million by 2024, leading to increased wear on infrastructure. Recently, two high-speed trains collided near Madrid, resulting in the derailment of two Iryo carriages, marking another incident on this busy line.
