The Superior Council of Magistracy (CSM) released data on Romanian judges' salaries, highlighting disparities based on experience and professional rank. Recently, the European Court of Human Rights unanimously rejected claims from five Romanian judges regarding unpaid compensation for discriminatory salary differences. In light of this, CSM provided current salary figures and European comparisons. As of October 2026, judges' net monthly salaries vary significantly, with 46% working in courts, 33% in tribunals, and 21% in appellate courts. Compared to the average salary in Romania, judges earn less than the EU average, raising concerns about the credibility of national institutions due to political divergences presented in international courts.
