Adrian Țuțuianu, head of the Permanent Electoral Authority, announced that the PNL owes 14 million lei for illegal campaign financing. Following a court ruling, AEP has contacted ANAF to initiate enforcement proceedings. The funds were improperly used for promoting Nicolae Ciucă's book during the 2024 presidential campaign. The High Court upheld the decision that the money must be returned to the state budget. PNL had previously sought reimbursement for campaign expenses but was found ineligible for public funding. AEP's audit confirmed that only private financing expenses should be reimbursed.
