The Social Democratic Party (PSD) has proposed a legislative initiative to increase meal voucher values from 45 to 50 lei per day, effective from November until September 2027. This is the party's first social initiative since returning to government. Employers are not obligated to adopt the new maximum value. The proposal argues that the current value does not cover meal costs due to rising food prices. The PSD estimates positive impacts on consumption and budget revenues, projecting a total budgetary benefit of 1.459 billion lei. The initiative aims to support the economy and benefit over 3.2 million employees in Romania.
