A legislative proposal allowing ride-sharing operators like Uber and Bolt to use only one vehicle under a commodat contract has been adopted by the Senate. The initiative aims to reduce tax fraud and ensure fair competition between alternative transport operators and licensed taxi services. Initially, the proposal sought to eliminate commodat vehicles entirely from eligibility for ride-sharing. The change is intended to enhance transparency and reduce risks of tax evasion, as commodat contracts can obscure the true beneficiaries of income generated from transport activities. The Competition Council suggested that commodat should also apply to taxi vehicles, but senators opted to restrict its use in alternative transport.
