The mayor of Slănic Moldova, Benone Moraru, was detained for 24 hours by the DNA for bribery allegations. He allegedly received a total of €21,000 in two installments from a company representative linked to a water supply contract. The first payment of €15,000 occurred on July 23, 2026, while the second payment of €6,000 was made on October 27, 2026, when the DNA caught the act. Moraru is set to be presented to the Bucharest Tribunal for a preventive arrest proposal for 30 days. The investigation focuses on a service contract signed in 2025 for urgent water supply restoration works. The initiation of criminal proceedings does not negate the presumption of innocence.
