German startup Helsing has unveiled an AI-based air defense system named Contra, capable of simultaneously combating thousands of drones and missiles. This technology addresses the vulnerability of traditional systems to saturation attacks, where overwhelming numbers of weapons are launched at once. The system integrates data from various sensors to identify and engage threats while maintaining human control over decisions. Helsing also introduced two new interceptor missiles, AD-1 Inferno and AD-2 Ambush, designed for different threat types. The company aims to reduce interception costs to under $100,000, making defense operations more economically viable. The system is currently in testing, with commercial availability expected in late 2027.
