The onset of winter, combined with gas shortages in the EU and conflicts in key supply regions, has led to a surge in gas prices in Romania, surpassing 500 lei/MWh for the first time since December 2022. On Wednesday, a transaction of 120 MWh was recorded at a peak price of 520 lei/MWh. Romania's gas imports have increased, with 14.7 million cubic meters imported on Wednesday, primarily for domestic use. Current gas storage levels are at 29.8 TWh, which is lower than last year's figures. The majority of traded gas on the BRM platform comes from imports, as domestic production is regulated at significantly lower prices.
