The Permanent Electoral Authority (AEP) informed the government about the need for elections in 35 localities due to early terminations of mayoral mandates. An additional 6 or 7 localities may also require elections depending on contest resolutions. AEP President Adrian Țuțuianu discussed electoral reform with Prime Minister Luca Niculescu, emphasizing the need for legislative changes. They plan to meet to outline steps for modifying electoral laws and party regulations. Țuțuianu suggested that Parliament should establish a special committee to review AEP proposals and ensure legislative approval by June 2027.
