A legislative initiative proposes transferring the funding of military centers from local administrations to the Ministry of National Defense (MApN) in Romania. If adopted, local councils will no longer bear the operational and capital expenses of these institutions. The proposal aims to relieve local authorities of financial obligations that have existed for decades. Registered on October 21, 2026, the project seeks to amend Law no. 446/2006 regarding civil defense preparation and repeal certain provisions of the National Defense Law. Should it pass, the new regulation will take effect on January 1, 2027, with preparatory provisions applicable beforehand. The initiative includes a new article ensuring MApN will provide necessary resources for military centers, consolidating funding responsibilities within the defense sector.
