In November, a record auction price of 8.87 euros/MWh was reached for energy transport capacity between Bulgaria and Romania, significantly higher than last year's 0.40 euros/MWh. This increase will directly impact Romanian energy bills. The auction, conducted by JAO, saw 66 companies competing for 1300 MW of capacity, with demand outstripping supply by four times. Only two of the winning firms are Romanian, while the majority are from Bulgaria and other countries. Romania's energy imports surged due to the shutdown of the Cernavodă Nuclear Power Plant, leading to higher reliance on Bulgarian energy.
