The Minister of Culture, Ioana Ciocan, acknowledged a significant error in the valuation of a painting by Nicolae Grigorescu, mistakenly recorded at 3.5 lei instead of 35,000 lei. This mistake originated from a currency denomination error in 2005. The painting is stored at the Museum of Art in Ploiești, which is not under the Ministry's jurisdiction. Ciocan emphasized the need for public institutions to reevaluate cultural assets every ten years, highlighting financial constraints and the limited number of specialists available for such tasks. She pointed out that the issue extends beyond a single institution, as museums face widespread resource challenges.
