Scientists sequenced the genome of a woman who lived 30,000 years ago, revealing a mixed ancestry from Eastern and Western Europe. This study, published in Science Advances, analyzed genomes from three individuals of the Gravettian culture, suggesting closer biological ties than previously thought. The findings indicate that regions like southwestern France may have been significant cultural centers during the last Ice Age. The woman's DNA showed similarities to Western European genomes but also connections to Eastern and Central European groups, highlighting genetic exchanges during the Gravettian period. Overall, the results suggest a more complex genetic landscape in prehistoric Europe than previously assumed.
