A French maritime patrol aircraft has been deployed to Romania for surveillance missions in the Black Sea, responding to regional security concerns. The ATLANTIQUE 2 aircraft will operate from Mihail Kogălniceanu Air Base from October 18 to November 6, coordinating with Romanian naval command. The missions aim to identify navigation hazards and enhance the protection of critical infrastructure in Romania's Exclusive Economic Zone. Joint training exercises will occur between Romanian and French military personnel, contributing to NATO deterrence efforts and improving maritime surveillance capabilities. Romania is also increasing its naval patrols and monitoring maritime security in light of threats from the ongoing conflict involving Russia and Ukraine.
