Sixty Christians were killed in two separate attacks in Ethiopia's Oromiya region last week, according to the Ethiopian Orthodox Church. The church reported that all victims were Christians, but details about the circumstances and perpetrators remain unclear. The Ethiopian Orthodox Church has 45 million followers, making up 60% of Ethiopia's population. The regional government and a rebel alliance have blamed each other for the attacks. The church stated that 14 believers were killed in Merti Woreda on October 20, and 46 in Sherka Woreda on October 24. Additionally, over 20 houses were burned, and more than 20 people were hospitalized with serious injuries. The regional government claimed the rebel alliance aimed to incite religious conflict, while the rebel source accused the regional government of the attacks. The Oromo Liberation Army (OLA), a rebel group, has not yet commented on the situation.
