Romania has made significant progress in modernizing its economy and institutions, but regional disparities and unequal access to education and infrastructure persist, according to Alexandru Petrescu, head of the Financial Supervisory Authority (ASF). Speaking at the GBSN Beyond 2026 conference, he emphasized the importance of strong institutions and public trust in achieving sustainable prosperity. Petrescu highlighted the need for financial markets to support long-term investments and savings while maintaining public confidence through balanced regulation. He also pointed out the role of business schools in preparing future leaders amid increasing economic complexity and the rise of artificial intelligence. Looking ahead, he stressed the importance of responsible decision-making to ensure benefits extend to future generations.
