In Romania, around 1.35 million elderly people live alone, facing challenges beyond financial issues. The Barometer ABC highlights the lack of support for seniors who struggle with daily activities due to health problems. While pension increases are discussed for 2027, they do not address the need for assistance with tasks like shopping or medical visits. Many seniors cannot afford home care, which can consume a significant portion of their income. The country allocates only 0.3% of GDP for long-term care services, far below the OECD average. Additionally, 28% of seniors are at risk of poverty or social exclusion, limiting their access to necessary resources. The Barometer calls for improved home care services and better coordination of social and medical support to help seniors maintain their independence.
