The General Council of Bucharest approved a twinning agreement with Kyiv, focusing on collaboration in various sectors such as infrastructure, economy, education, and culture. This partnership aims to enhance mutual support during crises and facilitate joint projects, including those funded by the EU. The agreement, initiated by Mayor Ciprian Ciucu, received majority approval and emphasizes cultural exchanges, public administration cooperation, and economic development. It also includes provisions for humanitarian assistance in times of crisis. Each city will appoint a coordinator to oversee the partnership's implementation, which will be reviewed annually. The initiative began in March 2022 and is set to be signed by both mayors, taking effect immediately upon signing.
