Three individuals have been indicted in a case concerning alleged fraud involving EU funds for small farms and young farmers in Romania. The European Public Prosecutor's Office (EPPO) is investigating 237 projects, with an estimated loss of 3.5 million euros to the EU budget. Of these, 170 projects received funding. The main accused, a consultant, allegedly submitted false documents for these projects. If convicted, the defendants could face up to ten years in prison. The investigation also involves 30 other individuals who have admitted their involvement and are seeking plea agreements. The scheme reportedly involved individuals accepting commissions to submit fraudulent funding applications.
