Cluj Airport has installed 12 automated border control gates to enhance passenger processing and reduce congestion, with an investment exceeding 12 million lei. Six gates are for EU travelers heading outside Schengen, while six serve arrivals from non-Schengen countries. The Automated Border Control system uses biometric verification and secure document reading, monitored by border police. Additionally, the airport features an ILS CAT III landing system for low visibility conditions, aiming to minimize flight cancellations. In 2025, Cluj Airport recorded over 3.5 million passengers, marking a 10% increase from 2024, making it the second busiest airport in Romania after Bucharest-Otopeni.
