The Avram Iancu International Airport in Cluj-Napoca has installed 12 automated border control gates to enhance passenger processing. This investment of over 12 million lei aims to reduce congestion at the airport. Six gates are located in the Departures Terminal for EU travelers heading outside the Schengen area, while the other six are in the Arrivals Terminal for non-Schengen arrivals. The Automated Border Control system uses biometric verification and secure reading of electronic travel documents, monitored by border police. Additionally, the airport features an ILS CAT III landing system to assist operations in low visibility conditions, potentially decreasing flight cancellations during fog.
