Bucharest has established a new protected natural area called Valea Saulei, covering 5.2 hectares near Lake Plumbuita. This area is home to over 80 bird species, as well as mammals, reptiles, and amphibians. The initiative aims to safeguard biodiversity and allow for educational and scientific activities. Valea Saulei is the third protected area in the city, following Văcărești Natural Park and Petricani Meadow. The decision was made by the city council and will be officially recorded in land registers within 30 days.
