The driver responsible for the death of four-year-old Anastasia has been sentenced to five and a half years in prison. The incident occurred in June 2022 when Anastasia was hit while playing outside. The driver, who lacked a valid driver's license, initially claimed to have taken driving courses in Sweden. Despite challenges in the legal process, including attempts by law enforcement to absolve her of culpability, the court ultimately convicted her. This case led to the enactment of the Anastasia Law, which imposes strict penalties on unlicensed drivers involved in fatal accidents. The law was signed by President Klaus Iohannis in July 2023, aiming to prevent similar tragedies.
