A part of the building affected by the explosion in Rahova collapsed during controlled demolition work. The operation targeted the upper floors, using a hydraulic shear mounted on an excavator. Images captured show the fifth to eighth floors collapsing, leaving only the ground and first four floors standing. The controlled demolition began in early October 2026, described as a first in Romania due to its complexity and the fragile state of the structure. Workers are using special equipment to safely remove parts of the building, as access to the explosion site was deemed dangerous. Following the explosion on October 17, 2025, investigators considered gas accumulation and a possible short circuit as causes. The building was found to have major structural damage, posing a risk of collapse.
