The head of the Financial Supervisory Authority (ASF), Alexandru Petrescu, highlighted that only about 25% of Romanian homes are covered by mandatory natural disaster insurance. He emphasized the need for increased insurance coverage and financial preparedness among the population. During a regional meeting in Bucharest, Petrescu pointed out the importance of regional cooperation in addressing natural disaster risks, especially as Romania holds the presidency of the Southeast European Cooperation Process. He also discussed a feasibility study on regional cooperation and the significance of collaboration with the European Insurance and Occupational Pensions Authority (EIOPA) to enhance understanding of insurance coverage disparities across countries. Petrescu reaffirmed ASF's commitment to ongoing cooperation with regional and international partners to strengthen resilience against natural disasters.
