Romanian Agriculture Minister Florin Barbu announced positive outcomes for farmers following the EU Agriculture and Fisheries Council meeting. Romania successfully advocated for the continuation of national transitional aid beyond 2027, which is crucial for the country's negotiating position. Barbu emphasized the need for adequate funding for the Common Agricultural Policy from 2028 to 2034 and requested a reduction in payment disparities among EU member states. The Romanian delegation also aimed to maintain the optional nature of payment caps and sought to include irrigation infrastructure funding as a non-productive investment. Additionally, discussions included simplifying agricultural risk management tools and resuming sheep exports to third countries.
