The Turceni Group 5, the only operational unit at the Oltenia Energy Complex, was shut down due to a boiler failure. This incident mirrors a previous issue from three weeks ago. The unit, with a licensed capacity of 285 MW, was taken offline at 8:02 AM, with an estimated return to service on November 1. The shutdown has reduced coal-fired power generation below 500 MW, exacerbating energy supply challenges during peak evening hours. The Cernavodă nuclear plant remains offline due to low Danube water levels, and hydroelectric contributions are limited. Wind energy is currently the second-largest source of power, but overall production remains insufficient, leading to net imports for the Romanian energy system. CE Oltenia continues to operate three 330 MW units at Rovinari and one at Turceni, despite previous plans to decommission the latter by August under PNRR commitments.
