Bulgaria has implemented new vehicle registration and technical inspection rules effective October 27, 2026, impacting many Romanian vehicle owners. The changes include mandatory physical inspections when transferring vehicle registration to another administrative region or changing ownership for vehicles less than ten years old. Vehicles registered before 2016 are exempt from this requirement. Additionally, the issuance of temporary registration plates is limited to three times per vehicle, and owners no longer need to prove ownership of a newly installed engine unless it has a different identification code. Inherited vehicles can be registered by any heir without needing consent from others, and they can also request deregistration under specific conditions.
