The UN has projected that recent commitments by countries to reduce greenhouse gas emissions will only lead to a 6% decrease by 2035, which is insufficient for climate goals. Even with full implementation of plans, emissions might only drop by 9%. The IPCC indicates a need for a 43% reduction by 2030 and 60% by 2035 to limit temperature rise to 1.5 degrees Celsius. The report highlights that while there are some advancements in adaptation and financing, they remain inadequate. Global financing for emission reduction is currently at $1.9 trillion annually, far below the estimated $7.8 trillion needed by 2030. COP31 in Turkey is seen as an opportunity to address these gaps.
